Correspondence and other documents concerned with the appraisal of Bernard Shaw's literary estate, namely the value of all aspects of copyright, including the stage rights, film rights, translations rights, and television rights, as well as the value of the inventory of books which was in Shaw's possession at the time of his death. Consists mainly of letters to W. P. Watts, of A. P. Watts & Sons, and copies of his replies, but also includes copies of letters written to the Public Trustee and others pertaining to the appraisal. Correspondents include the Public Trustee; their lawyers, J. N. Mason & Co.; Walter Smee, Will & Co.; various publishers, including Constable, Penguin, R. & R. Clark, and Dodd, Mead; the Society of Authors; Theatre Guild Inc., N. Y.; General Cinema Finance Corp.; and, of course, the Estate Duty Office. In addition, there are numerous financial statements providing information on royalties earned by Shaw in the years prior to his death and the inventory of books in Shaw's possession at the time of his death, as well as the contract for the film rights to Androcles and the Lion with an Italian firm, Nuova Rinasciamento Films, in 1950.
